Below is a list of projects that lay within biomedical informatics research. Not all projects are shown.
Virtual MicroscopeThis system provides progressive zooming of virtually any resolution images using wavelets (1997- ). |
TIDTrusted Image DisseminationOur approach provides a content-based filtering of images. Potential applications include the protection of patient privacy in medical databases. |
Because of advances in digital imagery, many medical images are now being stored in this medium. While this provides an easy way to store and share these images, it also raises some questions as to the amount of storage necessary and security issues. The Virtual Microscope project shows a progressive display of very high resolution images using wavelets. This allows a professional to search through this image just like they would with a standard microscope, however, at any point, the user may save the image for future reference. The Trusted Image Dissemination project filters the patient's personal information from medical images so that these images may be shared without infringing on personal privacy.
This group is headed by Prof. James Z. Wang and Prof. Jia Li at The Pennsylvania State University.
Some research projects were started when Professors James Z. Wang and Jia Li were with the Database Group, the Biomedical Informatics Group, and the Information Systems Laboratory of Stanford University.
